Mechcommander Nostalgia

What keeps bringing you back to MechCommander after all these years?

We've all played newer RTT and RTS games with bigger budgets and flashier graphics, yet here we are decades later still talking about MechCommander.
What is it that keeps pulling you back? Is it the salvage system, the pilot progression, the mission design, the Battletech setting, the music, or just nostalgia?
I'd love to hear what hooked everyone in the first place—and what still makes you reinstall it today.

At a moment some years ago I thought MCG was a Perfect Game, it had engaging battles, no economy to keep, individual mechwarriors with voices and character, supporting armor vehicles and battle armor infantry, destructible environment and a core history embedded in BattleTech, and also a Good online and LAN games option. What else could I want? only a bit of airpower... but that could destabilize the gameplay and maybe make it less perfect as it was... A few more different Mechs could be welcome though...

I think MCG is unique, I'm playing it since demo came out and never seen game quite like it. The combination of difficulty, rewarding salvage, limited resources and tonnage, swift but decisive action, the mechwarrior characters... and I still like the graphics and how the game looks and sounds. It's insane that MCG started development before Red Alert 1 came out, and still holds up so well. But I'm not immune to nostalgia, it's a factor for sure, cannot say how much.

Never got into MC 2.
