One of the most common issues with getting Mechcommander to run on modern machines is simply by tweaking the compatability settings.
1.) go into the folder in Program Files (x86) for Mechcommander
2.) right click and go to properties
3.) click on compatability
4.) Finally, tick the "Run this program in.." and select SP2 and also tick Run this program as Administrator
